Family Portrait

Family Portrait is a representation of how an immediate family deals with the loss of a matriarchal figure.  Based on interviews with family members, each component is representative of an individual person (brother, sister, father, husband, son, daughter, niece/nephew) impacted by the same loss. Constructed of stiffened Kleenex, each piece is marked, discolored, torn and stitched in correlation with the answers given.

Image Descriptions:

Image 1: Full view of installation of Family Portrait. Seven irregular squares float in the corner a room. They are spotlit, but the room is enveloped in shadows. The floating squares are each multiple pieces of stiffened tissues (Kleenex) suspended from the ceiling. Each is beige or white and casts harsh shadows against the back wall.

Image 2: A more detailed view of the installation. Each square is more visible and details become clearer - wrinkles in the stiffened tissue and how each is sculpted slightly.
